Marlin 45/70, found at the gun show I am looking for some info on what I brought home.I have what I think is a Marlin pre-Remington model 1895 45/70.The serial number begins with 99 so I think this makes it a 2001 made rifle?

Fire Team Leader Location: Arizona | With regards to shortening my Marlin Guide Gun, the folks that did the work were Accurate Ordnance out of Winder Georgia: http://accurateordnance.com/ They charged $235.00 to shorten the barrel, relocate the front sight and manufacture a thread protector (price included 30 bucks return shipping). If they didn't have to disassemble the gun and remove the barrel to cut and thread it, it would have been a little less expensive. I want to say it took less than 2 months for them to turn the rifle around but your mileage may vary depending on their workload (if you chose to use them). I already had the silencer and up to this point it was primarily used on my MAC 10 machinegun. Now it (the can) sees double duty on my Marlin. I believe I paid 480 bucks for the can (plus 200 dollar transfer tax) and bought it directly from the manufacturer (Bowers LLC) who transferred it to my local SOT (who then transferred it to me after about a 6 or 8 month wait). As far as using this specific setup with iron sights, I will share that the diameter of the can is such that it blocks the use of the iron sights (it's diameter is larger than the sights are tall). Buuut, I can 'aim through' the can (keeping both eyes open) using the iron sights and hit just about anything the size of a soccer ball out to 75 yards. That said, I would not hunt using that sighting method as any type of precision shot placement would be luck aiming through the can. |
